Laura Channing is a PhD student in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral research examines colonial taxation, taxpayers and inequality in West Africa, especially Sierra Leone. Her research interests are in African Economic History, Fiscal History and the History of Empires. She holds a BA in History from King’s College London and an MPhil in Economic & Social History from the University of Cambridge, and was the Jane Eliza Procter Fellow at Princeton University in 2019-2020.
