Please join us at the Wilberforce Institute for the first of our lectures for the 2024-25 season, the annual Alderman Sydney Smith lecture, which takes place this year on October 16 at 4.30pm BST. Our speaker will be Dr Heather Cateau from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, and she will talk about ‘”The New Negro Business”: The Enslavement System in the Caribbean in the Age of Revolution’.

We will be opening our doors at 4pm for drinks and refreshments, and please stay behind afterwards, if you can, to chat with our speaker and enjoy a glass of wine. For more information about the lecture or the venue, please contact Judith Spicksley [Judith.spicksley@hull.ac.uk] or Sophie Blanchard [Sophie.blanchard@hull.ac.uk]
If you would like to listen to Dr Cateau’s talk but can’t make it to the Institute, you can join us online – just click here for more information and to register.
