Join a wide range of disciplinary and professional experts to discuss the past, present and future of
corporate tax strategies and national tax regimes within a larger international context.
This free, one-day event will explore historical and contemporary perspectives on:
• Where does responsibility for corporate taxation and tax ‘avoidance’ lie?
• Are ‘tax havens’ always in tiny jurisdictions?
• How have politicians and business leaders dealt with the international coordination of
corporate taxation?
• What is the past, present and future of corporate tax strategies and national tax regimes?
This conference offers an important opportunity to consider historical and contemporary perspectives on the question of where responsibility for corporate taxation and tax ‘avoidance’ lies – with multinational enterprise (MNE), individual states, supranational organisations or some combination of all of these. Apart from international efforts (League of Nations, OECD) to address the issue, little is known about how politicians and business leaders over the long-term have dealt with the international coordination of corporate taxation as tax strategies and tax management has evolved.
The event has been organised by Jan-Otmar Hesse (University of Bayreuth), Ben Wubs (Erasmus University Rotterdam) and Neil Forbes (Coventry University) and supported by The Volkswagen Foundation under the Grant Programme ‘Challenges for Europe’.
