The University of Oxford Centre for Economic and Social History and Nuffield College, Oxford, are inviting applications to present papers for the 2026-2027 round of the Graduate Seminar in Economic and Social History.

This seminar series is an engaging forum that provides graduate students from around the world with the opportunity to share their work, receive useful feedback, and spur interest in their upcoming projects. We welcome qualitative and quantitative research on any aspect of economic and social history, and encourage students from all related disciplines to apply. We are keen to broaden the definition of economic and social history, and are particularly open to applications that cover under-studied eras, subjects, and countries.

The Graduate Seminar in Economic and Social History is well attended by faculty and graduate students from History, Economic History, Economics, and similar disciplines. Each session consists of a 30minute presentation
by the guest speaker, followed by 30 minutes of discussion and audience questions.

The seminar will take place weekly during term time (see dates below) on Wednesdays, from 1 to 2 pm. Online presentations are available in exceptional circumstances, but we strongly encourage speakers to attend in person
at Nuffield College, Oxford, to take full advantage of the academic environment offered by Oxford and the College.

Interested graduate students can apply by sending an abstract of their project (maximum 500 words, in English) and their CV to esh.graduate@history.ox.ac.uk. Applications for presentations during Michaelmas Term should
be submitted by 5 PM BST on 10 September 2026, while applications for Hilary and Trinity Terms should be submitted by 5 PM BST on 17 September 2026. Please indicate your preferred dates of presentation in your
application.

Successful applicants for Michaelmas Term will hear back by mid-September 2026; those for Hilary Term by mid-October 2026; and those for Trinity Term by early December 2026 (at the very latest).

We look forward to your application, and please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions.
