Climate Shocks and Economic Outcomes in Historical France and Spain

During the bursary year, I completed the final three chapters of my thesis. “Climate Shocks, Aridity, and Economic Growth in Spain: 1904-1934” and “The Distributional Effects of Temperature Shocks: Evidence from Early 20th Century Spain” trace how climate variability shaped regional income and inequality in early twentieth-century Spain, while “A Provincial-Resolution Climate Dataset for Spain, 1500-2000” provides a long-run dataset of seasonal climate variables that will be made available for others wishing to work on Spanish economic and climate history.
