The Stones of Ostia: Production, selection and use
My bursary year provided the opportunity to develop and present the economic history aspect of my thesis at an international conference ‘Echoes of Stone Crafting’ which subsequently led to a forthcoming publication. That paper sought to draw on work presented by other scholars published in the Economic History Review to explore how we might use economic theory to better understand the place of the stone trade in antiquity. A second paper, derived from this, entitled: ‘Theorising Ancient Quarrying’ has been selected as a keynote public lecture at the forthcoming 13th ASMOSIA conference in Vienna which I shall be attending in late September.
