German and Scandinavian expatriate merchants: Networks, practices, and integration. Politics and business between Newcastle and the Baltic, c.1840-1920

I am incredibly grateful to the EHS for my bursary, without which I could not study. I am especially thankful as the support helped me continue my research during the coronavirus pandemic. My study is an analysis of the human element in trade, examining business networks and expatriate communities.

The bursary provided the financial breathing room necessary to enable me to undertake research. It paid for vital digital research during the pandemic, without which my study would have floundered. It will help supplement departmental funds in large scale archival research at the National Archives and the archives of several banks.
