British Equity Market Development at the Turn of the 18th Century: Canals, Wars, and Bubbles
The EHS bursary enabled me to complete all three chapters of my PhD thesis, which investigates British equity markets during the late 18th/19th century. The funding helped cover university fees and childcare costs, allowing me to focus on finalising my research. Chapter 1 examines the Canal Mania of the 1790s, Chapter 2 analyses the effects of the Napoleonic Wars on British markets, and Chapter 3 focuses on the 1807 promotion boom. Also, being able to attend the Economic History Society Conference 2024 contributed to my research progress, and I am on track for submission in 2024. The next few months will involve refining my overall thesis, integrating feedback, and preparing for submission.
