International Institute of Social History

Joris Kok is a PhD candidate at the International Institute of Social History and Leiden University. He obtained his a MSc in Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and a MSc in Economic History from Lund University. His research interests include Jewish economic history, social mobility, and gender equality. His dissertation research studies the social mobility and integration of Jews in Amsterdam prior to World War II, focusing on Jewish diamond workers, an important ethno-religious economic niche at that time. He is also working on another project which studies historical gender equality in Sweden over time and space and its relation to economic and demographic changes in the late nineteenth and twentieth century.
