Li is a researcher who has particular interest in the living standards of rural wage workers in early modern England. She was awarded her PhD degree at the University of Exeter in February, 2023. Her PhD thesis, entitled ‘Wage labour and living standards in early modern England: a case study of the Shuttleworth accounts, Lancashire 1582-1621’, explored different types of wage workers employed, and the Shuttleworth employees’ living standards during a period of crisis. Li worked as a research associate/fellow for the FORMSofLABOUR project after she passed her PhD viva. During this fellowship, she will further the discussion of life-cycle changes of living standards and transform her PhD into a book, Wage Labour in Rural England, c. 1580-1620, by using more household accounts and probate inventories.
