The Department of History at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Assistant Professor. We welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in the broad field of economic history. The post is open to applicants working on the economic history of any region of the globe since 1750 CE and can include, but is not limited to, any aspect of economic history or associated fields such as financial, monetary, and business history, or any specialism within economic history such as demography and mortality, family and the household, agriculture and industry, inequality and human capital, and markets and institutions. However, in order to complement existing strengths and areas of interest within the department and the wider University, we are particularly eager to hear from applicants with a focus on environmental history and/or an interest in regional economic history with the potential to make use of local archives. Expertise in quantitative methods, in order to strengthen our provision on the MA in Social and Economic History and build further links with the Durham Research Methods Centre, is also desirable.
