The Economic History Society invites nominations for a prize for the outstanding teaching of economic history to secondary school students at Key stage 3 and 4. One prize, of £500, will be awarded biennially.

The prize is intended to recognize the range of contributions that teachers can make to engaging school students with different aspects of economic history. The judges will take a broad view of the range of contributions that schoolteachers may have made. Nominees may, for instance, have:

  • Developed innovative approaches to teaching economic history;
  • Contributed to sustaining or extending teaching in economic history;
  • Achieved distinctive success in engaging their students with economic history.

Nominations

Nominations should be made by the Head of History or Head Teacher. Nominations should include:

  1. A statement describing the schoolteacher’s contribution (max. 500 words).
  2. A supporting statement from their Head of History/Head Teacher (max 200 words).
  3. Additional classroom material or feedback may be appended to the nomination.

Eligibility

Nominees must be currently employed as School Teachers.
