Kinship Networks and Emigration: A Case Study of 19th- and Early 20th-century Guangdong, China
During the bursary award year, I expanded my dataset of Chinese genealogical data from one lineage to five, completed a draft of my first chapter on migrant networks and migration incidence, advanced work on my second chapter on women’s marriage migration, and started collecting data for my third chapter on migrant assimilation. I also presented my research at the graduate seminar in my own department and at four conferences, where feedback helped refine and extend the project. These activities have strengthened the empirical foundations of my thesis and positioned me to complete a full draft on schedule.
